fields

This environment defines the fields that BibDB will recognize and use, together with several of their properties. Note that, in contrast to Ver. 1.0a, all fields MUST be defined here – there are NO predefined defaults. A total of 36 fields may be defined (vanilla BibTEX uses 27 fields). One new field name per line may be specified. The format is:

The meaning of the qualifiers are:

• Capitalize. Any fields followed by the string {capitalize} will be automatically capitalized after any editing, if the ``autocapitalize'' flag is turned on.
• Numeric. Any fields followed by the string {numeric} will be recognized as numeric by the pattern matching algorithm. This will enable specifying a range in the search pattern. The fields ``year'' and ``number'' are designated numeric by the supplied configuration file.
• Authorlike. For fields with this designator, BibDB adds and removes braces around accented characters when converting between 7-bit and 8-bit modes. This is done so that the character counting algorithm of BibTEX will be able to work properly in ``alpha"-like bibliography styles. The fields ``author" and ``editor" are designated authorlike in the supplied configuration file.
